The holding of the Morija Arts & Cultural Festival is always a challenge given the limited resources available. This year, for the first time, we enjoy the generous support of a Brand Name Sponsor, Telecom-Econet. We trust that with this stronger private sector anchor, the Festival may now develop to its full potential and attract further support. Rea leboha!
Khotso, khaitseli ea Moshoeshoe
Each year the Morija Arts & Cultural Festival chooses a theme that com-plements its overall vision of nation-building and fostering a dynamic, forward looking culture, one that is united while affirming its diversity (Kaofela re chabana sa khomo).
During 2008, our theme is "Khotso, khaitseli ea Moshoeshoe", which at one time was aptly rendered by Dr. Mosebi Damane as "Peace, the Mother of Nations". Peace is not the preservation of the status quo, or a quietness borne of fear or apathy. Peace is not a mere lack of conflict. It is rather a dynamic process of give and take, of respectful listening and sharing of opinions, of constructively engaging with one another and seeking viable solutions to the challenges that face us as families, communities, churches, organisations and as a nation.
Peace is also a state of being that assumes that the basic needs of all of us are being met, that each person is contributing positively to society and its productivity, and that the wealth created is being fairly shared, for poverty cannot give birth to nations.
Peace nourishes and encourages our creativity and dynamism as a people, it protects and secures the hard work and assets that we have built up, and it is always willing to learn and help others in the process.
Please join us therefore in celebrating our diverse culture, creative gifts and the fundamental values that underpin them from 01 to 05 Octo-ber during this the 10th year of the Morija Arts & Cultural Festival. Let us enjoy ourselves responsibly during the Festival, remember our common humanity, and seek to be true nation-builders and peacemakers.
