Jonathan & Armelle Halse and the Semonkong Team
In 1990, the Halse family took over Semonkong Lodge from the Frasers Trading Stores and has been living there and loving it ever since. They have established an effective team of Basothos that look after their guests. The Basotho people have an enchanting culture of friendliness and openness that makes all their guests feel welcome. We try to uplift the local community by enabling them to become an active part of the local tourism industry.
In an effort to empower our local community we at Semonkong Lodge, with the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation and Skillshare International, trained unemployed men and women to be qualified tour guides with first aid skills! The following are direct results from this project:
- The routes/tours where planned, researched and developed by the guides themselves, and
- All the money from the tours goes directly to them.
By booking a tour you can feed a family or help pay for a child's school fees!
