The Jones Family
At Malealea Lodge, guests will find a wealth of knowledge in their hosts, the Jones. Everyone feels welcome and is set on a learning experience within the Lesotho culture.
Community, social and environmental projects.
Malelea Lodge is involved in an abundance of various community and environmental issues that embody what responsible tourism is all about. There are literally countless projects and actions they are taking, some of which include:
Social and Community Involvement: involving the local community in tourism by promoting activities provided by locals that provide a sustainable source of income, whilst striving to maintain their culture. They are also actively involved in local development projects (such as building local schools and community centres, clothes donations, and protection of the surrounding wetlands).
Education and Skills Development: through helping to build local infrastructure, and also helping to administer a local skills and training program, they are heavily involved in various aspects of helping to empower the local community through education, and various other social investments.
HIV/AIDS Awareness: the supporting of local clinics and the promotion of awareness about these issues around the community are some of the activities undertaken to try and help tackle this epidemic at a local level. Support is also provided for those suffering from the illness.
Environmental protection: the surrounding wetlands are being helped through actions undertaken to protect and preserve portions of these local ecosystems. They also harvest rainwater, recycle and manage waste, and helping to provide solutions for litter in the local areas.
